Grundy County Public Health and Unity Point at Home nurses work closely with physicians to provide skilled and maintenance home care. Services include, but are not limited to: wound care, medication management, diabetic monitoring and teaching, blood draws, health teaching, catheter care, and IV therapy. Agency home therapies are available for qualified individuals. Services are billable to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance for individuals who meet criteria. There is a sliding fee scale for those who do not qualify for third party reimbursement.
Grundy County is able to offer home nursing visits through a merger with Unity Point at Home. The Grundy County Public Health office functions as an extension of Unity Point at Home and is a department of Unity Point at Home in Waterloo. Unity Point at Home is Medicare certified and as of January 1, 2011 became an affiliate of IHHC, Iowa Health System. Unity Point at Home has a nurse on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Home Care Aide/Homemaker services provide assistance with bathing, skin care, shampoo, and light housekeeping.
The Grundy County Public Health office provides public health education, resources and services to Grundy County. The public health office receives federal, state and county funding to support various programs and services. Services include: individual and group teaching and information; screening clinics for hypertension; communicable disease investigation with follow-up and prevention; school health programs; emergency preparedness; and substance abuse prevention. Clinics include toe nail trimming and fall flu shot clinics.
Information and referrals to community services is also provided. The agency is a member of Grundy County Community Partners. Grundy County Public Health works actively with county emergency management, law makers, county decision and policy makers, and other community partners to strengthen public health preparedness in the event of a natural disaster or act of terrorism. Grundy County Public Health oversees the county's Medical Reserve Corps. to utilize, as needed, in such events.
The Grundy County Board of Health is appointed by the Board of Supervisors as the policy making board of the public health department. The governing board is the Board of Directors of Iowa Health Home Care in Urbandale.
